Sarah Vega is a graduate of Rollins College, a university located in the United States in Winter Park, Florida. She graduated with a double major in Political Science and Asian Studies.
She was born to Colombian parents who immigrated from Bogotá. Her parents divorced early and, as a result, she would repeatedly fly between Florida and New York. It gave her a foundation to travel on her own and to do so confidently.
As she matured, she developed a love for other cultures, especially East Asian ones. What started as a two-week field study in China her freshman year, turned into a semester abroad, a minor, and eventually a major. After graduation, Sarah decided to teach English in China and ended up enjoying her job enough to continue for four years. It was during this time that she became a seasoned traveler, visiting over 30 different countries and territories, most on her own.
Sarah realized over time that journalism was not only a plausible path but a sensible one. She was able to combine her growing affinity for teaching, developed during her time as a teacher, and her ever-present interest in learning about other places, into a profession she would truly love. It was a blessing to realize she could both educate people and learn about new places simultaneously. Journalism is a path Sarah is now excitedly taking on at the University of Hong Kong. She is a candidate for a Master’s in Journalism and will graduate in May 2022.
