Kelly Shen was born in Hangzhou, graduated from Wuhan University with the bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting. She is pursing the Master of Journalism degree at the University of Hong Kong.

Her unparalleled aspiration for journalism could be traced back to the days she worked as a reporter in the Students’ Union at WHU. With her colleagues, she listened to different students’ stories, followed news topics on and off the campus, especially issues that are overlooked, including stray dogs on campus, students with disabilities and graduates’ accommodation, and wrote numerous feature articles. Her team innovatively established the Radio Diary program to deliver news stories in a radio format on the WeChat subscription account, attracting more followers to interact and communicate.

She worked as an intern writer at NetEase, one of the top 5 internet companies in China. She analysed popular film and television works and the social issues reflected in these works with creative insights. Her work gained over 100,000 views and inspired readers to pay more attention to some vulnerable groups that are often ignored, including women who lack discourse power in film and television works.

In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, Kelly joined Dingxiangyuan, a health media network, to work on news related to the pandemic. She and her team updated the number of infected cases in various cities in China and abroad on the WeChat subscription account daily, and cooperated with relative medical experts to dispel the rumors appeared on the Internet.

Kelly dreams to become the  journalist who always seek the truth and be a voice generator for people who cannot make their own voices.
