Wang Qin is now studying journalism at HKU. She was born in a small county in Hubei Province, China’s mainland. Journalism has attracted her since her high school years as the true stories in news magazines gave her inner strength through difficulties in life.
During her undergraduate study at the Communication University of China, Qin always tried to bring strength to others and herself through her journalism practices. She recorded the stories of the secret ecosystem of a minority group, the perseverance of a middle-aged man who struggled to operate his independent theater, and the ups and downs of a singer who once got seriously injured.
Selected into the US Embassy’s Student Journalism Program, she was fascinated by the incredibly diverse experience of the international media professionals. She conducted English interviews with multi-background guests including a Young Steinway Artist, and got more interested in global journalism.
To build up her experience in international journalism, she took internship at People’s Daily English Language APP, a Chinese official media platform aiming to tell China’s story to the world. She polished her skills to adapt Chinese news into English writing that better fits the favor of western audience. She also worked as an international content operator at Xiaomi Technology, enhancing content diversity in 8 markets in Western Europe and Southeastern Asia.
Qin believes her journey at JMSC will empower her with a broader vision as well as solid skills in journalism, and boost her to create more possibilities in her career.
